Oh, the places you’ll go.

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

It’s terrible to see that the last (and only) time I discussed our plans on here was back in April. This is probably because I try not to share this too much to avoid boring people, but since this really takes up a lot of my thoughts every single day, it is crazy not to talk/blog about it.

In April I shared that our plan is to get an RV and travel full time, we’ll hopefully be taking off late 2010/early 2011. I also said that we would be checking out an RV show in May, which we did do! There we discovered that we like fifth wheels that have layouts with the bedroom in the front, kitchen in the back.

Since then we work like crazy everyday, thinking of budgets and saving to buy the truck and the fifth wheel and everything we need to go to make these plans work. I keep finding more and more things to think about. I keep getting more excited, and more focused. I think about all the things that need to be taken care of, and what it will be like, the places we’ll go, the people we’ll meet.

Oh, I wish it was time to go now. :)

Plans for Next Year

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

When we agreed to be the night managers here at the independent retirement community, we decided we would live here for about two years without a whole lot of actual plan as to what we would do after that. It’s been almost a year now, and I spend a lot of time thinking about what Robert and I will be doing after this.

Most people assume that since we are here working nights here, with other jobs during the day, that we’re saving away for a house. While we are saving away, and someday we’ll probably buy a house, we don’t feel ready to be tied to one place.

Actually, our plans seem to be quite the opposite.

We’ve been talking about, and researching, buying a truck and a travel trailer and traveling. This has turned into an amazingly doable plan, and I keep getting more and more excited about it. I’ve even started putting together a folder of road trip songs.

We’ve been looking into trailer sizes and options, and getting a diesel vehicle we can convert to run on waste vegetable oil-true hippie souls that we are.

The first weekend of May we are headed to an RV show to look at some trailers in person. It’s so exciting!

I’m having a lot of fun looking through the book 1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. & Canada Before You Die by Patricia Schultz that I got from the library this week and putting together a list of things I want to see and do. Any recommendations?
